ARTHALAND Partners With ESCAP Sustainability Business Network To Drive Impactful Change

February 25, 2025

ARTHALAND Vice Chairman and President Jaime C. González has been appointed to the Executive Council of the United Nations ESCAP Sustainable Business Network (ESBN), the private sector network of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). ESBN drives businesses toward the 2030 Sustainable Agenda and SDGs. As a council member, Mr. González will advocate for sustainability, champion science-based emission reduction targets, and support ESBN task force initiatives.

ARTHALAND has set the benchmark for sustainable development in the country, proving that environmental responsibility and financial success can go hand in hand. As the first real estate developer in Asia to sign the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment, ARTHALAND has pledged to achieve net zero emissions across its operational development portfolio by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to building a sustainable legacy that benefits not only the company but also the community, nation, and the planet.

“I am honored to join this group of business leaders committed to sustainability and to collaborate on driving meaningful climate action and responsible business practices. I look forward to contributing to initiatives that create lasting impact,” said Mr. González.

ESBN has spearheaded the Asia-Pacific Green Deal for Business declaration, a bold initiative to accelerate business-led climate action across the region. This declaration calls on businesses to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into their core strategies through five key priority areas: (1) advancing a zero-carbon, affordable, and resilient energy system; (2) developing smart, low-carbon, water-secure, and climate-resilient cities, infrastructure, and mobility; (3) mobilizing public and private finance for green transformation; (4) accelerating and scaling up innovations for sustainable development; and (5) transitioning towards a circular economy. These priorities have shaped the establishment of ESBN’s dedicated task forces in Finance, Innovation, Infrastructure and Logistics, Energy, and the Circular Economy, driving concrete actions to create a more sustainable and resilient future.

As the Philippine Partner of ESBN Task Forces, ARTHALAND Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer Oliver L. Chan will drive sustainability initiatives aligned with the UN SDGs. His work involves collaborating with industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to implement low-carbon solutions, improve resource efficiency, and adopt circular economy principles. Through strategic partnerships, he will help shape policies and business strategies that foster economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social equity.

“Building on ARTHALAND’s success in proving that sustainability is both possible and essential for resilience, I am committed to driving initiatives that create lasting impact. By working across finance, innovation, infrastructure, logistics, energy, and the circular economy, we can accelerate sustainable business practices in the region,” said Mr. Chan.

ARTHALAND’s participation in ESBN underscores its commitment to sustainability leadership and responsible business practices. Beyond corporate initiatives, it actively engages in industry wide efforts and encourages Philippine businesses to join ESBN task forces in shaping a sustainable future.
