In celebration of Earth Month, the country’s foremost green developer ARTHALAND hosted a meaningful tree-planting event at Sevina Park, its master planned mixed-use community in Biñan, Laguna that holds the distinction of being the first and only one in Southeast Asia to achieve Platinum certification for both LEED for Neighborhood Development and LEED for Home categories. This initiative, conducted in partnership with the Net Zero Carbon Alliance (NZCA) and the British Embassy Manila, served as an opportunity to educate and inspire the next generation about sustainability and the importance of environmental stewardship.

According to Andrew Bowes, Political Counsellor & Green Team Co-Chair of the British Embassy Manila, "Planting a tree is an act of hope. It’s often said that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now – because it’s an investment in a future we may never fully see, but one we shape today."

The participants planted 45 native trees, such as Katmon, Mapilig, Bolong-Eta, Mangkono, Narra, Banaba, Malakatmon, Kalingag, Malabulak and Salinggogon, which represented 10% of the total number of trees committed by NZCA to help neutralize carbon dioxide emissions. They were also immersed in sustainability education through a lecture by EDC Watershed Management Officer, Forester Rich Paul Cosio, who talked about the importance of promoting and caring for native trees, shared insights on essential care and maintenance methods, and demonstrated practical planting techniques.

ARTHALAND’s Sustainability Manager, Ar. Anne Lictawa who closed the program with a message of gratitude and hope while emphasizing the company’s dedication to nurturing these trees and the values they represent said, “We hope these trees grow strong and resilient, much like our commitment to building a greener future.”

This initiative is one example of how ARTHALAND integrates environmental education into its broader mission of sustainable development. As a founding member of the Net Zero Carbon Alliance, ARTHALAND is pivotal in mobilizing collective climate action in the Philippines. NZCA unites corporations under a shared mission of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, promoting innovation, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices.

"Today, planting these trees represents our commitment to becoming net zero, and we hope to nurture this bond and connection as we continue our journey. This event is a testament to protecting the environment, a significant climate action to create a lasting legacy," said NZCA Executive Director Atty. Allan V. Barcena during the event.

By combining its leadership in sustainable real estate with initiatives that engage and educate the community, ARTHALAND is forging a path where development and environmental consciousness go hand in hand. In planting the seeds of knowledge and sustainability today, ARTHALAND helps ensure a better future for generations to come.
