A recent study conducted by Standard Chartered revealed that 55% of business leaders worldwide believe their companies are not transitioning fast enough to reach net-zero by 2050, and 85% of companies need mid to high levels of investment to transition to net zero.
Statistics from their report, “Zeronomics”, suggest that many companies, property developers included, find it very challenging to meet their commitments to the United Nations under the Paris Agreement adhering to the sustainable development goals. The agreement aims to transition companies to net zero carbon by 2050 to limit global warming to well below 2, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius, compared to pre-industrial levels.
That is not the case with Arthaland. Arthaland commits to decarbonize its entire development portfolio by 2030 by designing and constructing developments that are 100% certified as sustainable and operating projects that use 100% renewable energy. It is confident that net-zero can be achieved sooner because sustainability is at its core. Unlike most companies that need to re-tool the way they do business, Arthaland, from the start, has incorporated the highest sustainability and wellness standards in its design and operations. And in doing so, they have been able to achieve many firsts.
Its flagship office building in the Bonifacio Global City, Arthaland Century Pacific Tower (ACPT), is the first property development in the world to be granted EDGE Zero Carbon certification. EDGE, which stands for Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies, is the green building certification system of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group. ACPT is projected to achieve 45% in energy savings, 64% in water savings, and 34% in embodied energy in materials. The eco-friendly property also uses 100% hydroelectric energy supplied by the Pantabangan-Masiway Hydroelectric Plant of First Gen Corporation.
Arya Residences, the luxury condo developer’s flagship residential development in Bonifacio Global City will source 100% renewable power from a hydroelectric power plant beginning 2022. Even to this day, Arya Residences still holds the distinction of being the first and only residential building in the country to receive dual certification comprising of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification from the US Green Building Council and the Building for Ecologically Responsive Design Excellence (BERDE) 4-star certification by the Philippine Green Building Council, a testament to our commitment to sustainable development and environment protection.
Arthaland's other sustainable development projects under construction are also making their mark in the industry. These include two office projects which will be net-zero carbon: the Savya Financial Center, a next-generation sustainable office condominium within the highly connected upcoming CBD of ARCA South in Taguig City, and the Cebu Exchange, Arthaland’s soon-to-be-completed multi-certified green office building at the gateway of the Cebu I.T. Park. In addition, underway are residential projects: Sevina Park Villas located in Biñan, Laguna, a designer townhouse community nestled within the first and only master-planned mixed-use development in Southeast Asia to achieve LEED Platinum for Neighborhood Development, and Lucima, the first quadruple-certified sustainable high-rise residential condominium in the country located at the heart of the Cebu Business Park.
In 2020, Arthaland became the first in the Philippines and the first Asian property developer signatory to the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment (NZCBC) of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). Arthaland is also a member of the Energy Productivity 100 (EP100) of The Climate Group. EP100 counts 126 energy-smart companies as members, all of whom are committed to using energy more productively to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to accelerate a clean economy.
